Barely Significant

Damaged p-values

Two kinds of p-value that cannot be taken at face value. Neither is quietly discarded, and neither is allowed into a median or a histogram anywhere else on this site.

The missing decimal point

80 sentences report a p-value whose decimal point did not survive: p <01 for p < .01, p = 06 for p = .06. The tell is a leading zero on a value with no separator at all, which describes a p-value and almost nothing else.

These are read as the author meant them, because the alternative is worse: taken literally, p <01 is p = 1.0, which would sit in the ordinary bands looking like a real result.

Not a probability at all

A p-value is a probability. It cannot be exactly zero, it cannot be negative, and it cannot exceed one. These 1,144 sentences report one that is.

Most are p = 0.000, which is a rounding decision printed as a certainty: the honest form is p < 0.001.

borderline significantp < 10probabilities cannot exceed 1
Of the ten SNPs for which IPD and PCSS models disagreed, nine occurred when one approach found a SNP to have a significant effect while the other found it to have a borderline significant effect ( α ≤ p < 10 α ). 4 Discussion We have developed a method that approximates the covariance of products of phenotypes with other variables using only bivariate and univariate pre-computed summary statistics (PCSS).

By splitting the Karn579 cohort into those patients with the top tertile DART activation score compared to the remaining samples (Figure 6 A), the prognostic value of high MaSC for recurrence-free survival (RFS) was highly significant in TNBC when analysed as a categorical variable (hazard ratio (HR) = 2.165; confidence interval (CI) (1.599 to 2.931); P = 5.78e to 07).
highly significantp = 1.94probabilities cannot exceed 1
The analysis demonstrated that the optimized configurations significantly outperformed the lowest-performing configuration in all the cases, with highly significant p-values for the H&E-stained dataset ( p = 1.94 × \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$${10}^{-
highly significantp -value > 1a p-value is never exactly 0
In a prediction, the lower the p -value, the more significant it is, evidencing that the prediction is less likely to be by chance; ideally, a prediction should be <10 −10 to be highly significant, while a p -value > 1 is considered insignificant.
highly significantp = 0.000a p-value is never exactly 0
“Trust” had a highly significant positive association (p = 0.000);“communication” and “academic attainment” had significant positive associations (p = 0.033 and 0.024, respectively) with VBD acceptance in the students cohort, while these predictors were insignificant in the teachers community.

Similarly, total consumption and total number of analgesic doses were lower in group L than in group F and were highly statistically significant [ Table 3 ].There was no significant difference in the Aldrete score between the groups ( P > 0.05) in PACU, but the time taken to achieve an Aldrete score >9 was shorter in group L (7.41±1.80min) than in group F (13.13±2.09min) and was highly significant statistically ( P =0.000).
highly significantP < 0.000a p-value is never exactly 0
At baseline level (pre-operatively), the difference in levels when compared concerning the biomarkers between test and control group, there was a highly significant difference with serum HbA 1c (P < 0.000), amylase (P < 0.000), total protein (P < 0.000), glucose (P < 0.000) except CRP (P < 0.085) which was not significant.

concluded that lipid layer anomaly dry eye was the most prevalent type of dry eye in their study.[ 10 ] A study mentioned that the prevalence of dry eye was 95% in patients with blocked meibomian glands.[ 13 ] This occurrence of MGD in dry eye is statistically highly significant ( P = 0.000) in our study.

In the full cohort of HCC patients, preoperative CTC ≥ 2 had marginally significant association with increased tumor number (P = 0.067) and higher Edmonson grade (P = 0.064), while it had highly significant association with increased tumor size (P = 0.000), presence of PVTT (P = 0.000), and consequently higher BCLC stage (P = 0.000).
highly significantP < 0.000a p-value is never exactly 0
The mean mandibular condyle inclination (Table 5 ) in horizontal (HCI) and vertical (VCI) planes demonstrated highly significant differences between both groups with P < 0.000, while anteroposterior mandibular condyle inclination (APCI) showed no significance in which horizontal and vertical condyle inclinations relative to horizontal (HP) and vertical planes (VP) were higher in the TMD group (6.32 ± 3.60 and 79.39 ± 6.20°, respectively) than the non-TMD group (4.41 ± 2.48 and 75.08 ± 6.60°, respectively).

Results: The result of this study shows that there was highly significant improvement in six-minute walk distance pre and post intervention in chemotherapy (33.75+21.55, p=0.000), radiation therapy (39.69+25.46, p=0.000) and chemoradiotherapy (32.06+16.49, p=0.000) within the group.

Very highly significant (P<0.000) The sample size was calculated according to a pre-established formula: N = population size e = Margin of error (percentage in decimal form) Z = Z-score (desired confidence level, 95%: z score = 1.96) The estimated sample size required to achieve a precision of ±0.05% with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was 450 females.

When it came to opinions regarding dental college as a source of information about child abuse, there was a highly significant difference between second-year students (six; 14.0%) and fifth-year students (thirty-one; 96.9%) with a ( p -value = 0.000), but no statistical significance between males (twenty; 52.6%) and females (seventeen; 45.9%) ( p -value = 0.563).
