Although general tablet usage was not our main focus, the results of our questionnaire show a clear trend toward increasing tablet usage with age: While some children between the ages 1 and 4 did not have any contact with touchscreen devices and only some used them on a regular basis, the proportion slowly but steadily became inverted from the age of 5 onwards.
In monolinguals, there was also a marginally significant effect of vocabulary on the verbal component of numeracy, which is in line with past studies (e.g., Purpura and Ganley, 2014 ).
After correction for multiple testing, one of the t -tests in each of the nine topographic clusters turned out significant [in the right central cluster with t (34) = −3.06, p adj = 0.036, r = 0.46], one marginally significant [in the right posterior cluster with t (34) = −2.86, p adj = 0.056, r = 0.44], and four more neighboring clusters still showed trends [left anterior cluster with t (34) = −2.42, p adj = 0.11, r = 0.38, mid anterior cluster with t (34) = −2.57, p adj = 0.09, r = 0.4, right anterior cluster with t (34) = −2.32, p adj = 0.11, r = 0.37, and mid central cluster with t (34) = −2.74, p adj = 0.07, r = 0.43], always with a larger negativity for sublexically negative high-arousing words.
Although, here again, we can only find a trend toward significance, in both analyses the postulated effect is of a medium size, which cannot be neglected (see discussion for why the effect might not be as strong as in previous literature).
T -tests within each of the three laterality clusters only showed a trend toward a difference between neutral low-arousing and negative high-arousing words in the left cluster [ t (34) = −2.17, p adj = 0.12, r = 0.35] with a larger negativity for negative high-arousing words.
The fact that insight solutions were associated with higher accuracy and confidence compared to noninsight solutions, and also displayed a weak trend for shorter solution time, could be taken to support a discontinuous view.
For the other combinations, a clear trend was that temporal parameters (onset, offset, peak latency) and shape parameters (amplitude, ampavg, upslope and downslope) were usually not correlated as judged from the numbers across electrodes, consistent with the findings from Lang et al.
To this end, we first counted the number of significant and marginally significant correlations across electrodes for each ISI condition and each paired parameter.
In addition, the total score of grammatical and lexical categories correlates moderately (though only marginally significant) with the score on general vocabulary, as can be expected.
These results suggest that classification accuracy showed a trend with a steep increase in Block -2 that reached a plateau over Blocks -1 and 0, as shown in Figure 1 .
Switch costs were not modulated by the type of background cue either, although the interaction between language and cue type appeared to be trending toward marginal significance ( F > 1).
Three participants showed a marginally significant choice in the same direction while the remaining five participants did not select one array more than chance.
Second, a comparison of the number of toys given showed a trend toward children from School A giving more toys than children from School B, showing that children from the middle SES neighborhood gave away more toys than children from the more deprived neighborhood.
In Experiment 1 we sub-grouped participants according to the SR index, and as predicted, the high SR readers showed a significantly larger imageability effect than low SR readers for inconsistent words in errors, but no such difference was apparent for consistent words.
H2 was also empirically supported although the difference in reduction of gambling behavior by viewing a recommendation only (compared to personalized and normative feedback) did not quite reach statistical significance.
We found a marginally significant interaction of presentation mode (looming and receding) and motion trajectory (collision and near-miss) in the minimum vertex of pupil diameters [ F (1,6) = 5.601, p = 0.056, η p 2 = 0.483].
The estimation of Monte Carlo CIs showed that this effect could be considered significant, as the unstandardized CIs did not comprise the value of 0, 95% CI [0.001, 0.034].
While the cognitive predictors were significant additional predictors as a whole, no single cognitive variable was a significant predictor for females, and only vocabulary was marginally significant for males.
No other effect approached significance, Wald s < 2.06, ps > 0.15 (see Table 2 for coefficients and standard errors of the predictors included in the models) 4 .
