At 0.1% of GO-Au, we observed a decreasing trend (even though it was not statistically significant) in degradation of the scaffold, however at 0.25% and 0.5% concentrations of GO-Au, the degradation rate was significantly reduced in a dose dependent manner compared to naïve chitosan scaffold (Fig. 3A ).

In 57 studies with cross-sectional data published from 2004 to 2018, the number of ALS patients showed a marked trend towards a considerably higher number of included patients in the more recent studies (Spearman Rank order correlation between number of included subjects per year and the year of publication, ρ = 0.87, p < 0.0001), whereas the total number of published studies over years of publication remained constant ( ρ = 0.41, p = 0.12, Spearman Rank order correlation) (Supplementary Figure 1 ).

Discussion Not only is the present study the first to apply EEMD in acquiring only six-second detrended DVP signals for assessing arterial stiffness, but it also unveiled the clinical significance of Hilbert-Huang spectrum-derived instantaneous energy of maximal energy (f Emax ) in differentiating non-diabetic middle-aged and elderly subjects from those with diabetes by showing highly significant positive associations of f Emax with key diabetes parameters and stiffness index.
In the multivariate logistic regression model adjusted for age and sex (OR 0.43 (0.16–1.16), P = 0.094) as well as after adjustment for age, sex and comorbidities (OR 0.42 (0.15–1.17), P = 0.096) the association demonstrated a trend towards lower risk for in-hospital death in PE + Syncope patients by the administration of systemic thrombolysis with a borderline significance level, respectively.
