Interaction effect The interaction effect was marginally significant ( p = 0.08) for lower frequencies; however, since establishing a possible interaction between context and word class was one of the central issues behind this work, we also tested the simple effects.
Figure 3 also indicates that a four-way interaction between congruence, prime type, visibility, and quintile should have obtained – basically because the absence of the congruence effect with masked valence primes only – but this interaction fell short of significance, F (4, 152) = 2.10, p = 0.08, partial η 2 = 0.05.

Results showed that across 200 trials, both males and females learned the task; females did not perform significantly differently than men in terms of choosing advantageous cards, although the trend approached significance, p = 0.08, with males selecting 69% advantageous cards with females selecting 62% advantageous cards, which is similar to results on the normal IGT.

The Morphology × Grade interaction was marginally significant ( F (1,1944) = 2.98, p = 0.08), indicating a significant effect of morphology in both groups, which was larger for 3rd graders whose error rates decreased from 17.4% to 8.9% passing from the R − S − to the R + S + conditions (difference = 8.5%, p < 0.0001); 5th graders’ errors decreased from 9.4% to 1.7% for R − S − and R + S + , respectively (difference = 7.7%, p < 0.0001).
A marginally significant main effect of target, F (1,48) = 3.13, p = 0.08, η p 2 = 0.06, Cohen’s d = 0.40, showed that participants tended to rate the truthful target as more deceptive ( M = 3.90, SD = 1.55) than the lying target ( M = 3.40, SD = 1.19).
