OPSCC patients who died after chemotherapy also showed a similar pattern, with the difference approaching significance.

Due to the large sample size, almost all comparisons were highly significant (the confidence intervals illustrated as error bars), except comparison between W and P+W for lung cancer.

When those SNPs were analyzed by the location of cancer, 9 (4.31%) were nominally significant in right colon cancer, 12 (5.74%) in left colon cancer (including rs6687758, an SNP previously associated with CRC in the Basque population) and 12 (5.74%) in rectal cancer.

Notably, the dose–response relationship between ESCC risk and serum V, Ni and Sr concentration was an inverted U-shape, whereas serum Al concentration showed a positive trend with ESCC.
