This hypothesis fits to our data as genetic diversity ( H e ) and the proportion of polymorphic loci (MAC ≥2) were slightly higher but significant or marginally significant in the southern group (0.803 vs. 0.798, Mann–Whitney U test, p = 0.029; 3821 vs. 3090, Mann–Whitney U test, p = 0.052).
A marginally significant correlation exists between this distance and the median difference in DVG abundance among scenarios ( ρ S = 0.794, 4 d.f., 1-tailed P = 0.029), suggesting that lineages evolved under more similar host switching histories tend to show more similar DVG abundances.

Similarly, while univariate analysis revealed associations between ctDNA concentration and clinical features (lymph node metastasis with oral rinse-derived ctDNA, p = 0.012; tumor site and T stage with plasma ctDNA, p = 0.010 and p = 0.032, respectively), multiple linear regression modeling for both oral rinse ( R 2 = 0.109) and plasma (R2 = 0.212) ctDNA did not demonstrate strong associations between baseline ctDNA values and these clinical features, although lymph node metastasis remained significant in oral rinse ( p = 0.006) and tumor site remained marginally significant in plasma ( p = 0.029) multivariate models (Supplementary Tables 4 , 5 ).
While a marginally significant correlation was observed between the score and diseases status with genome-wide data (P T <0.3, AGP, P = 0.029; SSC, P = 0.0085), the score based on the neuronal modules was highly significant ( Figure 4 ).
