While the latter result did not reach statistical significance, there was a clear trend toward decreased tumor multiplicity throughout the course of the prevention experiment.

While the present study showed a trend toward higher in-patient costs for de Gramont (other than to receive chemotherapy) these differences did not reach statistical significance (de Gramont vs Lokich, mean difference=£874, P =0.181, de Gramont vs raltitrexed, mean difference=£828, P =0.206), although this must be considered in the light of the small sample size.

Women showed a trend towards higher activation of prefrontal regions when in their midluteal phase, which did not reach statistical significance (Fig. 1 ).

Although many of the genes comprising these sets did not reach statistical significance individually, taken as a group they were highly significant.

Local accumulations of the cytoskeletal protein neurofilament L in axonal swellings showed a trend towards being more frequent in of KIF5A –/– motor neurons (12.4 ± 5.1 % of cells), in comparison to KIF5A +/– (9.3 ± 1.0 % of cells), and KIF5A +/+ (4.3 ± 4.0 % of cells) motor neurons, but the difference did not reach statistical significance (Fig. 2 ).

The use of VKA showed a trend toward increased risk of bleeding but did not reach statistical significance.

Results also showed a trend toward an inverse correlation of the p16 and EGFR expression that is, p16-positive SCCHN showed less EGFR expression although this did not reach statistical significance ( P : 0.083).

RT-PCR analysis of other collagens, in particular Col3a1 and Col5a1 , significantly up-regulated in the Frzb -/- mice compared to wild-type mice in the microarray analysis, depicted a decreasing trend at Day 7 in FRZB overexpressing micro-masses compared to the control micro-masses; however, these comparisons did not reach statistical significance (Figure 4A ).
