We report the following principle findings in patients with cardiac AL amyloidosis: (1) Prolonged QTc (≥483 msec) and abnormal QRS axis showed significant incremental prognostic values in addition to revised Mayo stage; (2) ECG scores which were assigned by presence of prolonged QTc (≥483 msec) and abnormal QRS axis, showed good associations with the mean absolute values of LV GLS and regional LS; and (3) mean values of Log NT-proBNP differed significantly according to ECG score and showed an increasing trend as ECG score increased.
At least two factors may be significant: (i) there was a difference in age at which the two ‘growers’ and ‘finishers’ began the feeing regime (4–5 weeks for the ‘growers’ and 20–21 weeks for the ‘finishers’), and (ii) unlike the ‘finishers’ the ‘growers’ underwent a 15 week ‘wash out’ period feeding on a conventional diet (without acorn supplement) 4 weeks of acorn supplementation, before slaughter.
Also in the regression analysis, the identified differences in connectivity between groups did not significantly contribute to predict UL motor function, although there was an interesting trend indicating that higher connectivity in somatosensory association areas was related to poorer hand dexterity in combination with a bilateral or ipsilateral CST wiring, highlighting the importance of association and integration areas for UL function.
