Highly significant associations were identified using a strict Bonferroni-adjusted significance threshold with α = 0.05, which was based on the total number of SNPs evaluated and led to an effective threshold of −log10 = 6.14 or p -value = 7.30 × 10 −7 (= 0.05/68481) for the reference genome and −log10 = 7.75 or p -value = 1.79 × 10 −6 (= 0.05/27906) for the pangenome [ 103 ].
Despite the small numbers, a trend towards significance was seen between the band pattern and cancer history: among cancer cases ( n = 4), 2 (50%) had “double” hnRNP L status versus 2/21 (9.5%) in cancer-free patients, whereas “single” hnRNP L was seen in 1/4 (25%) cancer cases versus 15/21 (71.4%) cancer-free patients ( p = 0.066).
The patients diagnosed with DE exhibited a different profile: poorer ovarian reserve markers (especially those with MIX endometriosis), had undergone significantly more surgical interventions due to a more symptomatic disease, were also significantly more frequently treated with hormonal treatments and showed a trend towards taking more antioxidant treatments.
