Due to the small sample size of each group (10 patients), we decided to combine the two verum acupuncture groups (low and high dose groups) because (1) the total treatment time, needle stimulation time, and reported sensations were the same in both verum groups; (2) we found no clinical outcome differences between the two verum acupuncture groups and both verum acupuncture groups showed a trend towards improvement when compared to sham treatment, and (3) high and low dose acupuncture needle stimulations evoked similar activation patterns (Additional file 3 : Figure S3) ; ( 4) reported sensations as measured by MASS were similar in both real acupuncture treatment groups, and both showed significant differences from the sham acupuncture group; (5) acupuncture prescription for Knee OA varies across different studies; combining two protocols may better represent clinical acupuncture in practice; and (6) combining two groups gave us more power to test our hypothesis.
Key genes for NED were clearly altered by SNAI2-siRNA treatment since the expression of CHGA was completely abolished and that of Enolase 2 ( ENO2 ) significantly ( p < 0.05) decreased, as revealed by real-time RT-PCR analyses (53%), and confirmed at protein level by Western Blotting (Figure 4 ), while the expression of synaptophysin ( SYP ) and neurogenic differentiation factor 1 ( NeuroD1 ) only showed a trend towards down-regulation (not shown).
from 4 h to 8 h after trauma, but not during the initial 3-h period post-trauma induced by dropping a 450 g weight from 1 m which induces a mild injury.[ 18 ] In a separate study, Petrov et al., using a similar trauma model, reported a decrease in the cerebral blood flow by 2–3 h after trauma that showed a trend toward normalization by 4 h post-trauma.[ 19 ] Shen et al., using magnetic resonance imaging based perfusion imaging in a similar trauma model, reported reduced hippocampal cerebral blood flow at 4 h (8-14%), 24 h (8%), and 48 h post-trauma (18%), compared to their pre-injury levels.
An interim analysis showed that the intracoronary injection of fhADCs was feasible and safe, and showed a trend toward improved cardiac function and perfusion defects, and reduced myocardial scarring. 4 In conclusion, this study demonstrated that intracoronary administration of cultured ADSCs improved myocardial perfusion defects, reduced LV chamber dilatation and infarct area in a porcine acute MI model.
Meanwhile, OPD (0.75 and 1.5 g/kg), OSD (0.15 g/kg) and OSK (0.6, 1.2 and 2.4 g/kg) treatment did not show significant increase of the swimming time in mice (14.73 ± 1.28, 23.96 ± 3.70 and 27.34 ± 5.72 min, respectively) as compared to the control group ( p = 0.897, p = 0.398 and p = 0.268, respectively), but OSD (0.15 g/kg) showed a trend of increasing swimming time, but did not reveal a significant difference ( p = 0.225).
