Studies conducted in Central-South America showed a trend for weaker association compared to other areas; one with no association 48 , one with approaching significance level (p = 0.067) 54 , and one with disappearance of significance after adjustment with confounders 40 in 5 studies.
sc IFN β‐1a‐ versus placebo‐treated patients Patients treated with sc IFN β‐1a had a lower mean (±SD) number of new/enlarging lesions ( n = 273; 6.9 ± 10) compared with placebo‐treated patients ( n = 134; 10.9 ± 16, p < 0.01), while the lesion volume increase of new/enlarging lesions showed a trend towards reduction in treated patients (0.47 ± 0.99 vs. 0.88 ± 1.48 cm 3 , p = 0.067), after adjusting for age, sex, center, and conversion.
