Although the great majority of these women was lean (median BMI of 22.3 kg/m 2 ; 20.3–24.8 interquartile range), BMI data showed a significant trend to higher values from the north to the south of Italy, while no significant difference was observed between mothers residing in rural or urban areas. 2.2.
