In the literature

Results Candidate SNPs, genes and pathways from the previous literature None of the SNPs previously reported in the literature (see Introduction) had even a nominally significant effect on left-handedness in the UK Biobank dataset (Table 1 ), i.e. no P values were less than 0.05.
For each transcript, we counted the number of experiments where the significance for differential expression was ≤0.05, and then generated the binomial probability, referred to as the consensome p value (CPV), of observing that many or more nominally significant experiments out of the number of experiments in which the transcript was assayed, given a true probability of 0.05. p values were adjusted using the p.adj function in R to generate q values (CQV).
Because only published and nominally significant values are considered, this makes effect estimates arguably insensitive to non-retrievable unpublished (and therefore likely non-significant) results and makes it possible to assess more insidious forms of dissemination bias such as p -hacking (e.g., repeated calculation of significance statistics in primary studies by means of different methods or inclusion of different a posteriori-selected covariates, until nominal significance is achieved).
