The p values for these seven relationships (four spectral and three spatial) are all highly significant, ranging from p = 7.6 × 10 −7 to p = 2.7 × 10 −3 .
The broad “extracellular region” term was highly significant (adjusted P-value = 7.66 × 10 −7 ) and encompassed the major discriminants identified earlier, including GCM-leaning LTF, LCN2, SPP1, SLPI, LGALS3 and HSPB6 together with PCM-leaning MPO, PTX3 and CRP.
Similarly, the link from maternal AD liability (ukb-b-14699) to a lower risk of insomnia (ukb-b-3957) remained highly significant with the Weighted Median method ( p = 7.67 × 10 −7 ), However, in line with our multi-method approach to identify potential bias, a significant MR-Egger intercept ( p = 0.008) suggests that substantial some caution is warranted due to potential horizontal pleiotropy.
Spearman correlation analysis revealed a highly significant positive correlation between myeloid cell abundance and CCL3 expression (r = 0.32, p = 7.68 × 10 −7 ), as well as a weaker but statistically significant positive correlation with CCL4 expression (r = 0.15, p = 0.02).
Interestingly, we do find a small but highly significant enrichment of SNPs in the immediate vicinity of motifs known to be associated with recombination in the CEU population (7.9%, p = 7.7 × 10 −7 ) ( Fig. 2, left ; Supplemental Figs.
When compared to the cytoplasm, the difference in the ratios of 1,750 cm −1 and 1,654 cm −1 was also highly significant ( P = 7.8 × 10 −7 , Fig. 6 D ).
Out of these 22 variant sets, 12 were in genes implicated in Mendelian disorders affecting red blood cells (for example EPB42 and TFR2 ; see Supplementary Table 15 ) and an additional five had highly significant associations with red blood cell traits in our data (p ≤ 7.82 × 10 –7 ; Supplementary Table 16 ).
Regression analysis of PC1 scores confirmed that age had no significant impact on sample distribution (coefficient = 0.28; p = 0.43), whereas group was the dominant determinant of separation, with a strong and highly significant coefficient of 81.47 ( p = 7.86 × 10−7) (Supplementary Fig. 2E ).
A highly significant linear correlation was found between the BCG index and mortality during the first month of the pandemic ( r 2 = 0.88; P = 8 × 10 −7 ) ( Fig. 4 E ); indicating that every 10% increase in the BCG index is associated with a 10.4% reduction in COVID-19 mortality.
The top activation areas are predominantly located in the right hemisphere, with highly significant laterality ( p = 8.27 × 10 −7 ) seen in the comparison of left and right hemisphere atlas parcellation region averages.

The correlation between the percentages of CD27 low IFN-γ + cells and the form of lung pathology was highly significant (r = 0.63, p = 8.7×10 −7 ), but it was likely secondary to lung destruction: it appeared only when higher scores were assigned to more destructive TB forms (i.e., tuberculoma – score 1; TB infiltrate – score 2; cavitary TB – score 3; caseous pneumonia – score 4); within a group of patients with the same form of lung TB pathology (e.g., TB infiltrate) the percentages of CD27 low IFN-γ + cells correlated with lung destruction (r = 0.45, p<0.01).
