There was a statistically significant difference in everolimus effects between the TSC and the non‐mTOR group (p = 0.049, chi‐square test, n = 9 and 7 cells, respectively), whereas the difference between mTOR (TSC and CD combined) and non‐mTOR pathologies almost reached statistical significance (p = 0.08, chi‐square test).
With the exception of IL-17A, whose increase in the presence of sPLA 2 -IIA almost reached statistical significance ( P = 0.0873) ( Supplemental Figure 4 ) and was confirmed in a larger set of animals ( Figure 3F ), no modulation was measured in the concentration of the other 17 quantified cytokines, namely GM-CSF, IFN-γ, IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-13, CXCL1, CXCL5, MCP-1, MIP-2, and TNF-α.
In any case, in the multivariate proportional hazards Cox regression analysis, the higher tertile of OPN almost reached statistical significance (Hazard Ratio: 2.9; p = 0.088; data not shown) so probably, the relatively low number of events precluded the analysis from having enough potency to show the association of OPN levels with CVE.
