New endpoints may be selected because they displayed a trend towards significance, while other candidate endpoints may have been examined but not selected or reported because they failed to display a desirable trend; this increases the chance of false positive (type 1) errors.

As shown in Table 2 , in unadjusted analysis, a higher VDR expression showed a trend towards significance with an improved survival.

On the other hand, the activation/exhaustion marker PD-1 showed good correlation with PD-1H levels on monocytes for CD4 T cells whereas there was only a trend towards significance for CD8 T cells.

When compared to isotype or vehicle-control treatments, inhibition of IL-10R signaling promoted a three- to fourfold increase in synovial Nlrp3, Casp1 and Casp12, while Aim2 showed a trend towards significance (Figure 4 B).

Addition of the best performing strain parameter, ESS sep , to standard CMR parameters in a multivariable model (model 1) showed ESS sep to be independently related to LVESV change whereas other CMR parameters were not, although there was a trend towards significance for scar size.
