Subgroup analyses by cancer type revealed that prostate cancer (n≥3) was positively associated with incidence (RR: 1.26; 95% CI: 1.09, 1.46), whereas lung cancer (n≥3) was negatively associated (RR: 0.92; 95% CI: 0.85, 0.99) (Table 3 ). Subgroup analysis by region indicated variability in associations: Japan showed a significant positive association (RR = 1.26; 95% CI: 1.12, 1.42; I 2 = 0%), whereas studies from the UK showed a negative trend (RR = 0.89; 95% CI: 0.78, 1.02; I 2 = 77.8%).
Furthermore, although only limited statistically significant associations were observed between the differential bacteria and flavonoid catabolites, there was a positive trend between bacteria decreased in PCOS and flavonoid catabolites, whereas a negative trend was observed for bacteria enriched in PCOS (Figure S8H ).
Species-specific trends, visualized using a random-slope extension for exploratory purposes, showed considerable heterogeneity: 41 species displayed a positive P–E association, four species (e.g., Anemone narcissiflora , Galium verum , Stachys macrantha , Thymus praecox ) showed a negative trend, and 19 taxa exhibited no clear relationship ( Figure 19 , Figure 20 and Figure 21 ).
