Conclusions from an Umbrella Systematic Review and Assessment of Causal Relations Using Bradford Hill’s Criteria included that while observational results suggest a weakly significant positive association between red meat and CVD risk factors, most experimental results do not support this relationship [ 5 ].
Excerpts
Protein, magnesium, zinc, vitamin B3, and vitamin B12 intakes showed a decreasing trend across neuropathy categories, with lower median values observed in patients with more severe neuropathy ( Figure 2 ).
The average HEI score between 2 and 58 years is 58, and the HEI score by age group was recorded as follows: 2–4 years = 58.3; 5–8 years = 52.6; 9–13 years = 50.1; this also shows a decreasing trend, as in the current research [ 8 ].
Although several nominally significant associations were observed, none remained statistically significant after correction for multiple testing. 4.
In this cohort 6.5% of women took a vitamin D-containing supplement, a factor that was borderline significant for vitamin D status, and only 3 women met the UK dietary recommendation of 10 μg/day.
Interestingly, CRP, a common marker of inflammation, failed to show a significant trend in this study.
The second regression controlled the girls’ BMI in the first block and found that it resulted in a marginally significant model that accounted for 4% of the variance.
There was a significant trend for PTH concentrations to decrease according to the categories of 25 (OH) D shown in Table 1 ; a comparison of the PTH at 50–125 nmol/L 25(OH)D to those >125 nmol/L suggested no difference between the two ( p = 0.45).
The mean value for LCHP could represent a “practically significant” impairment in performance ( i.e. , 1.5–1.8 min) if consistently observed across subjects.
Yet some test measures showed a trend towards improvement from oral β-alanine intake [ 55 ].
The prospective Intermountain Heart Collaborative Study with more than 40,000 participants revealed that 25(OH)D <15 ng/mL compared to 25(OH)D >30 ng/mL was associated with highly significant increases in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and peripheral vascular disease, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and stroke ( p < 0.0001), as well as with incident death (all-cause mortality was used as primary survival measure), heart failure, coronary artery disease/myocardial infarction ( p < 0.0001), stroke ( p = 0.003), and their composite ( p < 0.0001) [ 164 ].
The difference in post treatment regarding MS count between test and control group was not statistically significant, while the difference in follow-up was highly significant [ 16 ].
A meta-analysis [ 15 ] of four genetic association studies [ 19 , 20 , 22 , 25 ], for a total of 354 MDS and 644 control mothers, was performed in 2009 to address the role of the RFC-1 80A>G polymorphism as a maternal risk factor for the birth of a child with DS, and showed a trend toward an association under the dominant model (GG + AG vs .
a slight trendgold
There was a slight trend suggesting the share of animal-based foods to be higher among urban women.
The increment in CVD risk across decreasing 25(OH)D levels was generally linear over the range of 25(OH)D levels from 20 to 60 nmol/L, with a marginally significant pooled RR of 1.03 per decrement of 25 nmol/L of 25(OH)D [ 12 ].
Detection of p62 by immunoblotting showed a trend towards decreases p62 levels in the VitC deficient PMNs ( Figure 3 C).
Increasing folate intake reduced plasma homocysteine levels and induced an increase in total antioxidant capacity that was of borderline significance.
Those with the highest magnesium intake had 51% lower risk of developing diabetes than those with the lowest intake, and there was a significant trend across increasing quartile categories of intake in these middle-aged adults, even after adjustment for a number of risk and lifestyle factors, including dietary fiber intake.
The question was able to detect an increasing trend in intake (relative to three dietary recalls) in the non-Indigenous children; however, this trend was not evident in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children [ 29 ].
Although this reach may be significant, fiber consumption rates have not responded, suggesting the need for more prominence and clarity in DGA and MyPlate to better identify good sources of fiber and key benefits of increasing fiber intakes that resonate more clearly with consumers.
a strong trendgold
We similarly observed a trend toward an increase in ABCA1 protein in the EGG group from baseline to week 12 ( P = 0.07; data not shown), as well as a strong trend toward greater percent change in ABCA1 protein from baseline in the EGG group (+5.5% ± 9.4%) when compared to the SUB group (−1.9% ± 7.1%) ( Figure 3 E).
[ 59 ] showed highly significant improvements in memory in older women with MCI.
We found a significant trend for lower serum tHcy and MMA concentrations as quintiles of serum vitamin B 12 increased.
In spite of these findings, the minor beneficial effect may be significant in an elite competitive sport setting [ 10 ], although this remains unresolved.
Thus, a nominally significant, yet plausible, interaction between total zinc intake and the SLC30A8 rs11558471 variant on fasting glucose levels was observed.
