While hair cortisol concentrations in Wave 6 were not significantly associated with depressive symptoms in Wave 7 ( table 4 ; path b figure 1 ), each one-unit increase in hair cortisol concentration (log pg/mg) was associated with 17% higher odds of subsequently reporting fair/poor self-rated health, which while not quite statistically significant (p=0.066) warranted further investigation as a potential mediator.
There was also a trend of the average cardiac myofibril cross-sectional area being larger in the hearts of animals in the exercised group compared to the non-exercised control animals, although this difference was not quite statistically significant (t = 2.004, p = 0.0664, Figure 3C ).
Stratification by sex revealed that, although not quite statistically significant, female-associated placentas from the high-dose group appeared to have elevated levels of 5-HT compared to controls ( U = 3, P = 0.07; Fig. 4B ). 5-HIAA, 5-HTs primary metabolite, was found to be significantly reduced in placentas from the low-dose group compared to controls ( U = 17, P ≤ 0.02; Fig. 4C ).
Mean SNCW total score fell 7.53 points in the DLC sites but rose 0.56 points in the control sites, on a scale 128 points long, a difference which was statistically significant (W = 65, p = 0.045), because of decreases (separately not quite statistically significant) in the Quality (W = 62.5, p = 0.07) and Workload (W = 63, p = 0.06) components of SNCW.
For ward patients (n = 571) who were not admitted to critical care during the 48hrs pre or post onset of infection NEWS predicted 30-day mortality (AUROC 0.80, 95%CI 0.73–0.86) better across all values than any other tool (SOFA, 0.73, 95%CI 0.66–0.80; SIRS, 0.70, 95% CI 0.64–0.77; qSOFA, 0.72, 95%CI 0.65–0.80), although the difference for SOFA was not quite statistically significant (DeLong’s p = 0.07), in predicting 30-day mortality but performed significantly better than SIRS (p = 0.003) or qSOFA (p = 0.007).
