Discussion Genes harbouring markers with only modest evidence of association (nominally significant but not reaching the genome-wide significance threshold) can be identified if they belong to the same biological pathway or mechanism; therefore, pathway-based approaches, which jointly consider multiple variants in interacting or related genes, might complement the most-significant SNPs/genes approach for interpreting genome-wide association (GWA) data on complex diseases [ 7 , 8 ].

A nominally significant difference in OS in favor of patients randomized to eribulin compared with control in patients with bone, lymph node, and chest wall/breast/skin metastases at baseline was observed.
Finally, in humans, OX2R polymorphisms affect morningness–eveningness, napping, and reports of excessive daytime sleepiness, while OX1R polymorphisms have smaller but nominally significant effects on sleepiness and napping, based on numerous studies and data in the Sleep Disorder Knowledge Portal ( https://sleep.hugeamp.org/ ) ( 40 – 43 ).
A nominally significant Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation IV (APACHE IV) × LAR interaction (hospital mortality, P for interaction=.02) indicated stronger LAR prognostic effects in lower-severity patients (APACHE IV≤70), representing within-biomarker effect modification requiring prospective validation.
Oestrogen plus progestin reduced the observed hip and clinical vertebral fracture rates by one third compared with a placebo, both nominally significant.
, − Three component metabolites defining this pathway, phenylpyruvic acid, phenylalanine, tyrosine, were found nominally significant in their associations with blood arsenic species, and phenylalanine was significantly associated with urinary %InAs after FDR correction.
In contrast, 10 markers were significantly associated with response to Pembro in HR + HER2 − tumors, with an additional 9 nominally significant markers.
These correlations were nominally significant, that is, did not survive multiple comparison correction, but persisted across NS thr .
ECM1 had consistent associations with genetically predicted SCAD across both data sets, which were statistically significant, whereas SPON1 was only significant in UKB, despite consistency in direction of association, which was nominally significant before correction for multiple testing.
The other nominally significant interactions included CD2AP (rs9296559) x PICALM (rs3851179), CLU (rs11136000) x PICALM (rs3851179), and CLU (rs11136000) x MS4A6A (rs610932).
To further assess the relevance of driver meQTLs to cancer risk, we used them to predict breast cancer status alongside clinical covariates using the approach described by Elgart et al . 18 We first performed feature selection by LASSO on nominally significant driver meQTLs and available clinical factors (age, ancestry as represented by the top 10 genotype-derived PCs); LASSO regularization removed ancestry and some meQTLs.
In the present study, exploratory treatment-by-time analyses revealed nominally significant differences in nodal degree and nodal efficiency of the left parahippocampal gyrus between the treatment groups.
Consequently, a total of 19 SNPs remained in the subsequent analysis In individual SNP association analysis, ADRA2A rs553668, DRD2 rs1124491 and SLC6A4 rs6354 were nominally significant at the uncorrected 0.05 significance level with adjustment for age and gender.
We also identified several cancer pairs for which the genetic correlations were nominally significant.
Across probed models and across single cohorts, the nominally significant voxels were widespread throughout the brain, including the cerebellum, temporal and frontal areas, subcortical areas and somatosensory cortices.
A single-allele p-value of <0.05 was considered to be nominally significant and included in the PARIS analysis.
In addition, the intersect between the nominally significant differentially expressed genes in both the striatal RNA-Seq and the LCM striatal neurone RNA-Seq data sets are presented for comparison in Supplementary Table 2 .
As shown in sTable 3 , only one eicosanoid (299.25921/5.5) was nominally significant for women, but all were significant in men.
In that study, OCA2, KITLG, SLC24A4, and TPCN2, which are all associated with blond hair or blue eyes, did not show a nominally significant association with the risk of CM or BCC.
Premutation expansions in ATXN1 showed a nominally significant association with ALS susceptibility, while pathogenic expansions in NIPA1 displayed a nominally significant association with ALS survival.
Enrichment analysis We performed enrichment analysis by submitting the full list of nominally significant DEGs to the KOBAS algorithm 37 .
We then examined the associations between insomnia trajectories and immune cell subsets ( Additional file 2 : Table S7 ) and identified the overlapping subsets that were nominally significant association with both insomnia trajectories and incident cognitive impairment.
RECCO 23 finds nominally significant recombinants by comparing the cost of obtaining each sequence either by mutation or by recombination.
While linear age adjustment removed several of these spurious findings, a few associations such as mental and behavioral disorders due to opioids, arthrosis, and polyuria remained nominally significant indicating evidence of residual confounding, perhaps due to age.
In an APOE-ε 4 conditional analysis, only rs283815 remains nominally significant (Table 1 ).
