Facial EMG Zygomaticus reactivity The first model assessing the objective outcomes (see Figure 2 A) yielded a marginally significant main effect, χ 2 (2) = 4.45, p = .1, which was driven by losses ( M = 12.34%, SD = 40.65%) significantly increasing zygomaticus reactivity compared to null outcomes ( M = 1.79%, SD = 4.99%), b = 10.55%, t (88) = 2.11, p < .05.

Effect modification assessment To evaluate potential effect modification, the following steps were implemented: (1) Subgroup variable selection: Covariates were considered if they showed statistically significant ( p < 0.05) or marginally significant ( p < 0.10) interaction terms in preliminary fully adjusted models, or if theoretically relevant (e.g., physical activity due to its neurobiological links to depression resilience).

However, this trend was marginally significant in the association between civic dispositions and civic purpose ( β = 0.053, SE = 0.030, p < 0.10, 95% bootstrap CI [–0.007, 0.109]). 5 Discussion This study contributes to emerging scholarship at the intersection of civic education and sustainability by highlighting moral self‐concept as a critical developmental construct that links civic competencies to a deeper, more enduring sense of civic purpose.
