The two prospective studies differed, with one study reporting female gender with increased hazard of insulin initiation compared with men (aHR 2.13, 95% CI 1.08‐4.21), 48 while the other study reported female gender as protective for insulin initiation (aHR 0.95, 95% CI 0.90‐0.99) with marginal significance. 46 Two retrospective studies also described female gender as a protective factor for progression, 19 , 37 but the seven remaining studies had different findings and reported an aHR of female gender between 1.03 and 1.20 in relation to diabetes progression compared with men. 20 , 61 , 63 , 64 , 70 , 72 , 78 3.2.5 Lipid‐related factors HDL‐c, LDL‐c and triglycerides have been reported to be associated with diabetes progression.
All three samples exhibited a significant role of general cognitive processing (Choice reaction time, Mental rotation, and Raven's progressive matrices), basic numerical processing (Symbolic number magnitude comparison and Non‐symbolic comparison of numerosity), Number series reasoning, and gender in variation of Simple subtraction (except only a marginal significance of general cognitive processing in the UK sample).
In multivariate analysis, younger age (≤35 years) (hazard ratio [HR], 1.79; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01-3.15; p =0.043), positive lymph node (HR, 2.34; 95% CI, 1.47-3.71; p <0.001), early LR (HR, 4.76; 95% CI, 1.69-13.34; p =0.003), and early RR (HR, 18.16; 95% CI, 6.34-52.00; p <0.001) were significantly related with lower DRFS, whereas tumor size (HR, 1.58; 95% CI, 1.00-2.51; p =0.05) had marginal significance.
