However, while PCs in Df(h15q13)/+ mice displayed a clear reduction in mean firing rate during the steady‐state phase for the frequency interval tested (20–80 Hz), interneurones only showed a tendency towards reduced mean firing which did not quite reach significance (mean firing rate for PCs and FSIs in mutants was on average: 45.5% and 94.5% of those in wt mice; anova main effect of genotype, P < 0.001, F = 20.13 and P = 0.0586, F = 3.59 respectively; post hoc test showed a significant genotype difference for PCs for all frequencies except 20 Hz; Fig. 3 a–d).
Pairwise comparisons showed that the number of landmark-based choices was significantly greater than that of incorrect choices, Pearson chi-square test: χ 2 (1) = 15.21, P < .0005, but did not quite reach significance compared with geometry-based choices, Pearson chi-square test: χ 2 (1) = 5.44, P = .02.
There was also a tendency for subjects to spend less time looking up after hearing ‘pyows’ alone than if they had first heard eagle shrieks or the sound of a falling tree although this difference did not quite reach significance in pair-wise post hoc tests (‘pyows’ alone vs. eagle-‘pyows’, T + = 15, N = 6, p = 0.031; ‘pyows’ alone vs. tree ‘pyows’, T + = 15, N = 6, p = 0.031; eagle-‘pyows’ vs. tree-‘pyows’, T + = 9, N = 6, p = 0.422, post hoc Wilcoxon signed ranks tests).
While sex was included as an independent term in the best model (Table 1 ), the correlation between the sex of the badger and the frequency with which they made ETEs did not quite reach significance (P = 0.0506, Table 2 ) across the whole year, although the trend was towards males making, on average, more frequent ETEs throughout the year (Fig. 4 – mean values).
When the data were analyzed separately by sex, the effects of ELS on immobility time in males did not quite reach significance [ F (1, 41) = 4.077, p = 0.051], but a history of MS did significantly increase time spent immobile in females [ F (1, 34) = 5.681, p = 0.023].
Similarly, agrin protein was significantly increased in both Egr-1−/− mouse diaphragm (full length, p = 0.029; 110 kDa, p = 0.0027; 90 kDa, p = 0.001; 22 kDa, p = 0.007; Figures 4B,C ) and soleus muscles (110 kDa, p = 0.0464; 90 kDa, p = 0.0023; 22 kDa, p = 2.93 × 10 −5 ; Figures 4D,E ) compared to controls, with the exception of soleus full-length agrin which did not quite reach significance (full length, p = 0.051).
The DTSQc also showed a greater responsiveness than the DTSQsDiff to Treatment differences (Questionnaire × Treatment interaction), although this did not quite reach significance on the ranked (two-tailed) test (p = 0.051).
