No major differences in the expression patterns between adult SD and WS hearts were monitored although SD rats expressed slightly higher levels of genes involved in immune system function, regeneration and collagen biogenesis whereas WS rats showed a barely significant enrichment of cuticular plate components (data not shown).
There are further problems, such as selectively removing outliers that result in significant findings, interpreting nonsignificant p -values in small samples as ‘trends toward significance’ (but not interpreting barely significant p -values as trends toward nonsignificance), and using one-sided tests over two-sided tests to obtain desired results, 30 discussed in Love. 38 All these problems jointly threaten both internal validity and statistical conclusion validity, as it remains unclear whether the conclusions are supported by the data and if other explanations might be more plausible for the effects observed.
These expanded CSF T cells were enriched for cryptococcal-antigen specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells that are critical in protection from the fungus [ 39 ], secreting the protective cytokine, IFN-γ [ 40 ] as well as a lack of highly elevated CSF levels of typical T-cell specific Th2 cytokines IL-4 and IL-13 (IL13 was barely significant)[ 41 ], or typical Th17 cytokines IL-17 or GM-CSF (also not shown).
