The failure to influence the incidence of metastases by mechanical interference or intravenous injection in the present study does not establish that factors necessary for meta- stasis reside solely in the tumour cells. Although the data show no significant relation between metastasis formation and final tumour size, life span or growth rate, the extensive work of Wood and his associates (1954) shows that a large number of animals may be necessary to establish a significant trend.
In contrast, a significant trend towards an increased HIV-1 infection rate was observed in volunteers that had high pre-existing antibody titers against Ad5 (>200), compared to individuals with low pre-existing Ad5-specific titers (<200) [126] .
After classifying the 51 isolates according to the proportion of ring-stage parasites into groups with ≤10% ( n = 13), 11% to 50% ( n = 9), 51% to 90% ( n = 7), and >90% ( n = 22), a significant trend for increasing pvcrt-o expression levels with increasing proportion of ring-stage parasites was found, with the median FC of expression being 0.6 (interquartile range: 0.4 to 11.2) relative to P. vivax β-tubulin gene expression ( Fig. 2A ) and 0.4 (0.2 to 0.6) relative to P. vivax aldolase gene expression ( Fig. 2B ) in the group with ≤10% parasites at the ring stage of development (rings), compared to 1.7 (1.2 to 6.6) and 1.7 (0.7 to 3.5), respectively, in the group with >90% rings.
Principal component analysis (PCA) after unit variance scaling highlighted differences between the control group and CKD patients, as well as between the disease stages based on quantified patterns of metabolites. A significant trend in the metabolic profiles was observed according to the progression of the disease as the first axis represented 49% of the total variability ( Figure 3 ).
