9 Despite the considerable amount of literature regarding PEWS, there is limited evidence supporting its effectiveness and several systematic reviews failed to demonstrate more than a positive trend in clinical outcomes. 2 9–11 Further, most validation research on PEWS systems is conducted in University Medical Centers (UMCs), limiting its generalisability to large teaching hospitals and general hospitals with different infrastructure, case-mix of patients and more time-consuming paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) access. 12 In 2011, the Dutch national patient safety initiative ‘Prevent Harm, Work Safely’ (VMS safety programme), recommended paediatric departments to implement a PEWS system.
Notably, under the same experimental conditions, the experimental PDSs significantly improved C-HUVECs viability as compared to both glucose-based PDSs (0.80±0.05 and 0.88±0.03 vs 0.54±0.06 and 0.55±0.07 Abs 540 nm , P <0.05 for xylitol 0.7% and xylitol 1.5% vs glucose 1.36% and glucose 2.27%, respectively) and basal condition (0.80±0.05 and 0.88±0.03 vs 0.51±0.05 Abs540 nm, P <0.05 for xylitol 0.7% and xylitol 1.5% vs basal, respectively), while for GD-HUVECs, a positive trend that did not reach significance was found.
A positive trend of increased pregnancy length was observed among vaccinated individuals with greater third trimester exposure to influenza circulation than with lower third trimester exposure; however, the effect modification was not statistically significant (data not shown). 4 DISCUSSION Maternal influenza vaccination increased birth weight among live births in the present study.
