Recently, there is a clear trend toward primary PPV as the first choice for the treatment of any type of RRD, 3 – 5 despite the superiority of SB against PPV in uncomplicated retinal situations. 6 In the traditional SB, the inverted small fundus image, the difficulty to identify tiny retinal breaks, and the inability to share the fundus information with medical staff are recognized as disadvantages. 7 – 10 We speculate that these disadvantages may be one of the reasons that many surgeons prefer PPV over SB for the treatment of RRD.
