It is worth noting that the analysis on the delta of the beta index yielded only marginally significant results, probably due to the limited sample size and consequent lack of statistical power, since we failed to reach the desired sample size according to the a-priori power analysis, which was conducted on the basis of this outcome (Butti et al., 2020a ).
On the other hand, this conclusion is weakened by an unclear pattern of results on the behavioral level: For the reason that the RT distraction effect in the Oddball condition is only marginally significant (in a two-tailed t -test) and the interaction term of the factors Condition and Trial type also failed to reach statistical significance on a 5% level, it is hard to tell whether the lack of a behavioral distraction effect in the Distractor condition is due to the incapability of the rare stimuli to result in distraction of task performance or whether it mirrors weak statistical power in the behavioral data only.
Moreover, some indirect effects (e.g., via cognitive and metacognitive strategies) were non-significant or only marginally significant, suggesting that the strength and form of the belief–strategy–affect linkages may be conditional on specific strategy dimensions, analytic specifications, or subgroup characteristics.
