In a study using brown planthopper as experimental model, it was shown that an ABC transporter coded by the gene NlMdr49-like is involved in IMD resistance [ 68 ], showing that ABC efflux pumps may be significant assets in protecting from IMD-induced cell damage through their efflux activity and thus reducing bioaccumulation.
The human skin chymotrypsin-like proteinase, which may be the human analogue to this proteinase, did not appear to degrade basement membrane collagen; the lamina densa remained intact even after 8-h incubations, and the presence of type IV collagen was documented by immunofluorescence. This suggests that there may be significant differences in the proteolytic suscep- tibility of isolated basement membrane proteins as compared with the same proteins in their native environments.
This view was called into question, and alternatively, it was claimed and proven that state differences such as motivation, personal relationships, expectations, or demand characteristics amply researched by social-psychological and socio-cognitive hypnosis researchers (e.g., Spanos, 1991 ; Spanos and Coe, 1992 ; Kirsch, 2001 ; Lynn et al., 2019 ) play a much more important role, quite apart from the fact that situational and contextual conditions may be significant.
Some relevant physical effects are not included in the current model, but could be incorporated in future: for example, airway wall elasticity [ 10 ], which could enable modelling of transient airway collapse; mechanical interdependence of the acini, which has been incorporated in previous ventilation models [ 58 ] and extrathoracic deposition, which may be significant for large particles [ 5 ].
Because the statistical significance of individual patterns and sequences is assessed based on the overall number of their occurrences in the whole data set, they may be significant despite being rare; all that matters for them to be detected as being non-random is that they occur significantly more often in the original data than in the surrogate data, irrespective of other criteria like their particular time of occurrence or their complexity.
Indeed, zinc is an important mediator/messenger involved in several cellular activities and the shift of zinc from plasma to cells may be significant for both normal physiological processes including energy metabolism, blood coagulation, and zinc signalling, and a range of disease states, including neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, inflammation, endothelial stress, diabetes and thrombosis [ 91 ].
