Consistent with the literature [ 46 , 58 – 60 ], the NBO regimen applied here did however result in significant increases in ischemic cortex P t O 2 across the two strains (i.e., pooled data)—although within strain these increases did not quite reach statistical significance, probably due to small samples and variable changes.
The pooled findings for incentives did not quite reach statistical significance (RRunvac = 0.89, 95% CI: 0.77–1.03) and pooled findings for educational interventions showed no evidence of an effect (RRunvac = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.84–1.10).
Pathway analysis demonstrated that the differentially expressed transcripts comprised key pathways important for MEC secretory differentiation, including PI3K/Akt signaling, fatty acid biosynthesis, triglyceride biosynthesis and the mammary gland transition from pregnancy to lactation (although this did not quite reach statistical significance, padj = 0.07), among others (Fig. 3 B).
The mean volume of transfused RBCs (from 8.2 ± 7.5 to 7.2 ± 6.3 units, Mann–Whitney U test, p < 0.0001) and FFP (from 9.7 ± 10.0 to 8.7 ± 8.6 units, Mann–Whitney U test, p < 0.0001) were all significantly decreased during 2013 to 2018, while arterial embolization did not quite reach statistical significance (from 6.3% to 5.8% of severe PPH).
Additionally, our relatively small sample size meant that certain differences between groups in specific outcomes (such as length of ICU admission), remained as trends that did not quite reach statistical significance.
A large prospective study found an elevated risk that did not quite reach statistical significance, but found a strong dose–response relationship with total years of exposure. 1 Two studies found no significant association, 1 2 although one found a suggestion of elevated risk among the very highly exposed. 2 We examine here the association of ALS mortality with job-related formaldehyde exposure in the National Longitudinal Mortality Study (NLMS), a US-representative cohort with occupation data collected prospectively.
