After exclusion of samples taken after clinical intervention for cervical shortening had been initiated, unadjusted elafin concentrations measured at 10–13 +6 weeks’ gestation were higher overall in women who delivered prior to 34 weeks’ gestation (n = 390, ratio 1.76, 1.00 to 3.10, p = 0.05) though this did not quite reach statistical significance, nor after adjustment (n = 387, 1.59, 0.93–2.80).
In contrast, there was a significant correlation between fungal brain burdens and numbers of macrophages, and a positive trend between neutrophils and Ly6C hi monocytes that did not quite reach statistical significance, indicating that inflammatory responses measured by proliferation and/or recruitment of these cells are likely influenced by fungal brain burden ( Fig. 3B ).
Our results regarding hypertension are in agreement with a prior study by Fuks et al, 23 which found that among 4291 participants of the Heinz Nixdorf Recall Study in Germany, living ≤50 m versus >200 m from a roadway with high volumes of heavy‐duty traffic, there was an association with an odds ratio for prevalent hypertension of 1.51 (95% CI: 0.98, 2.34), which did not quite reach statistical significance.
30 In older patients, Mazzucco et al had observed an association between large PFO and cryptogenic stroke that did not quite reach statistical significance (adjusted OR, 1.94 [95% CI, 0.99–3.80]). 13 Of note, the imaging modality used in this study does not allow detection of ASA. 13 Handke et al observed an association between PFO‐ASA and cryptogenic stroke in older patients (OR, 3.88 [95% CI, 1.78–8.46]), but no quantification of shunt size
