In addition to point and interval estimation of SU and psychiatric disorder main effects, we also present estimates of joint effects (e.g., having both SU disorder and psychiatric disease diagnosis versus neither diagnosis) given evidence of borderline significant interaction between these two covariates and given the inherent value in directly measuring and presenting estimates of resource use in categories of joint comorbidities.
Other areas where we feel we have demonstrated appropriate judgement of significance is the inclusion of maternal age in our multivariate model based on our a priori hypothesis, and presentation of other ‘borderline significant’ outcomes, for example the inclusion of hypertension as a risk factor for admission (aOR 3.63, 95% CI 0.99 – 13.30).
Even though the variables risk classification and biochemical failure were not found to be independently associated with OS in the multiple regression analysis, differences in the curves were statistically significant (or borderline significant for biochemical failure) in the univariate logic of the Kaplan-Meier and log-rank test analyses.
Principal components C1–C4 to control for population stratification were added to the model as well as target INR which although only borderline significant, can influence target dose, as well as CYP2C9/VKORC1 metabolizer phenotypes, which are well-established predictors of warfarin dose requirements (Supplementary File 2 , Table 2 ).
