In respect of obesity, whether in general or specifically central obesity (waist circumference) these were related to both hypertension and diabetes status in men and women (with the exception of hypertension in women when sedentary behaviour was included as a covariate where it only attained borderline significance.) The strength of the relationship varied between the two genders – appearing broadly stronger in men than women.
Compared to borderline significance in GEE, the following relationships became significant: (1) between increasing ln serum cotinine levels and frequent night awakenings (PR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.01–1.63, p = 0.04) in the age-adjusted model, (2) increasing ln serum cotinine levels and having ≥1 sleep disturbance (PR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.00–1.24, p = 0.048) in the fully adjusted model, and serum cotinine levels ≥0.05 ng/ml and having ≥1 sleep disturbance (PR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.00–2.12, p = 0.049) in the age-adjusted model.
The significance of this latter finding, which should be treated cautiously because of the borderline significance and the multiple adverse effects investigated, lies in its link to historical concern that inhibition of cholesterol synthesis would lead to risk of corneal opacity. 27 , 28 Epidemiological studies have suggested both increased and decreased risk of cataracts linked to statin use. 29 – 31 However, these studies will not have the length of follow-up available in WOSCOPS or the benefits of randomization in minimizing confounding factors.
(2016), where a cohort of 355 patients was studied and using Cox regression analysis revealed that PCa patients with high PCAT-14 expression have better outcomes and are significantly associated with better prostate cancer specific survival (PSS), metastasis free survival (MFS), biochemical relapse-free survival (BRFS), with borderline significance for OS [ 92 ].
