When controlled for the confounding effect of the BMI (integrating the BW and the body height, identified as confounders), highly significant difference was found with regard to the observed values of the FVC, FEV 1 and VC between endurance and power group, as well as between endurance and controls, and borderline significance was presented in PEF and MVV when comparing endurance and power group, while this difference was not noted in between the power group and controls ( table 2 ).
These analyses demonstrated lower weight consumed (SMD = −0.31 [95%CI −0.52, −0.11], 19 comparisons, 586 participants, I 2 = 0%) and lower energy consumed (borderline significance) (SMD = −0.30 [95%CI −0.63, 0.03], 6 comparisons, 219 participants, I 2 = 0%) for foods/beverages that were harder, chunkier, thicker and more solid.
R esults Let's illustrate this by using data from a hypothetical superiority RCT with borderline significance according to the frequentist analysis (75 events/200 patients in the intervention group vs 91 events/200 patients in the placebo group, relative risk 0.82 (95% confidence interval: 0.65–1.04; p = 0.106) ( Table 1 ).
