Conclusion While the majority of laboratory mice are still housed in standard cages for testing in external apparatuses, a slight trend in the literature striving toward more naturalistic settings becomes apparent ( Vyssotski et al., 2002 ; Hess et al., 2008 ; Lewejohann et al., 2009 ; Mieske et al., 2021 ).
