Under the dominant model, compared to individuals with the wild G/G genotype, the adjusted OR of those with the T allele was 1.58 (95% CI: 1.15–2.16) in Chinese Shenyang training set, and was 1.49 (95% CI: 1.02–2.18) in Chinese Tianjin validation set, both accompanied with a significant trend relationship consistently.
A systematic review and meta‐analysis of data published between 1 December 2019 and 27 March 2020 including 4189 patients from 28 studies showed a significant trend for higher levels of cardiac biomarkers in patients with more severe COVID‐19. 51 On meta‐regression analysis, the only factor significantly associated with higher levels of cardiac injury biomarkers was the presence of hypertension ( P = .03).
When analyzed by quartiles, compared with Q1, participants in Q3 (OR: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.01–2.06, P = 0.044) and Q4 (OR: 2.27, 95% CI: 1.61–3.22, P < 0.001) showed significantly higher risk of DR in the unadjusted model, with a significant trend across quartiles (P for trend < 0.001).
This cumulative effect was further supported when combined individuals with one or two PD-susceptible genotypes (OR = 2.53, 95%CI = 1.21–5.27, p = 0.0165), and those with three or four susceptible genotypes (OR = 3.93, 95%CI = 1.83–8.43, p = 0.0004), with a significant trend across subgroups ( p for trend = 0.0009, Table 5 ).
