Dear Editor, Melanoma is the most severe type of skin cancer and its incidence has been increasing worldwide, although its mortality rate has remained stable and it has shown a decreasing trend in some countries in recent decades. 1 Early diagnosis and advances in the treatment of progressive disease are likely responsible for this stabilization in mortality rates. 2 From a financial point of view, cutaneous melanoma represents a critical burden for Brazil, and the cost of the disease varies according to the Health system (public versus private) and disease stage at the time of the diagnosis.
Brazil has a decreasing trend in incidence rate and according to WHO estimates has reached the goal of start reducing mortality. 1 As the main strategy for tuberculosis control, in order to reduce default and death from TB and increase cure, WHO adopted the Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course (DOTS).
13 Between 2000 and 2010 a decreasing trend of these bacteremic events was observed in parallel to a reduction in mortality due to pneumonia among the Chilean elderly patients (Pearson coefficient −0.70, data not shown). 14 Death rate due to pneumonia decreased from 324 to 222 per 100,000 inhabitants in this age group, and it is possible that the decline observed in our work is somehow mirroring a global trend in Chile.
13 Similarly, a decreasing trend in age at menarche has been observed for the past 20 years in countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. 16 , 17 In the United States, Anderson et al. 18 investigated changes in age at menarche, showing that the mean age for this event in American girls decreased from 12.75 to 12.54 over a 20-year period.
The accumulated PAR for XY335 and ZD958 was 1,162.1 and 1,145.5 MJ m –2 by the 0D model, whereas that decreased to 797.3 and 785.9 MJ m –2 by the 1D model, to 788.7 and 791.4 MJ m –2 by the 2D model, and further to 398.9 and 445.9 MJ m –2 by the 3D model, showing a decreasing trend with increasing the resolution of light simulation.
