10 According to a study conducted in Hong Kong on patients with stable COPD, 1 year of treatment with high‐dose NAC at 600 mg twice daily improved small airways function in terms of forced expiratory flow from 25% to 75% and forced oscillation technique, and also significantly reduced exacerbation frequency with a decreasing trend in admission rate. 11 In a meta‐analysis, patients treated with NAC had significantly and consistently fewer exacerbations of COPD. 12 The role of NAC was examined in a Delphi consensus study involving 53 COPD experts from 12 countries. 13 Respondents agreed that regular treatment with mucolytic agents could effectively decrease the frequency of exacerbations and the duration of mild‐to‐moderate exacerbations, while delaying the time to first exacerbation and increasing symptom‐free time in COPD patients.
Furthermore, the significant metabolite changes (selected by inspection of the PCA loadings [ Figure S4 ]) identified following TNF treatment were reproduced in each of the 13 C substrate-infused groups, with the exception of ATP in the 13 C-lactate infused group, which, while showing a decreasing trend similar to all other groups, did not reach significance ( Figure S5 ).
The test of trend showed that, as the α-carotene intake increased, the risk of current asthma showed a decreasing trend, which was very close to the statistic confidence cutoff (Model I: P for trend =0.001; Model II: P for trend =0.003; Model III: P for trend =0.08).
In a study conducted by the Public Health Department of the Northern Regional Health Administration performed between 2009 and 2019, it was found that, in that region, vaccination coverage against seasonal influenza in HCP showed a decreasing trend, with a maximum value of 51.2% in 2009/10 and a minimum of 28.5% in 2016/17 [ 7 ].
